Google in tourism are becoming more numerous and relevant. Today I'd like to get back with you on a late 2013 unveiled by the Mountain View giant because it did not (in my opinion) echo deserved feature. This feature applies to one of the flagship products of the brand: the aptly named Google Maps. Indeed, Google now gives you the ability to make yourself your own virtual tours, displayed directly in Google Maps! Explanations ...
Google Maps: Google accelerates when the UGC (User Generated Content)
Google seeks to expand its growing tool cards to make unavoidable. Beyond the basemap "classic" Google Maps (which itself is evolving at great speed with for example the inner mapping of buildings ), we will talk today about his little brother for total immersion: Street View. Who today has not already used Street View, whether to explore a neighborhood where just a visual representation of the address where it needs to go? To photograph the streets, there first had the "Google cars" and the tricycle where the car did not pass, or snowmobile ! (You can find all the gear to Google the address ). Now it's up to you because Google gives you a hand thanks to "photospheres".
Google photospheres: a tourist asset to exploit!
If you're an Android user on the phone, you've probably heard of photospheres (sometimes called geospheres). It's basically a photo mode on your smart phone, capable of performing a 360-degree view around you. So far, nothing especially innovative, application PhotoSynth Microsoft already allowed to do this.
Where it starts to get interesting for a tourist area is that it is
possible to display the photospheres you make directly in Google Maps! This changes the game in terms of visibility, as your achievement is accessible by all. Anyone using the famous little yellow guy "Pegman" is likely to fall on your photosphere.
Here you can see that Google Maps indicates the existing photospheres by blue circles.
Some constraints are still to meet to see your photosphere on Google Maps:
- You will need to provide upload photos via your Google+ account (and publicizing them)
- Your photosphere must be a COMPLETE 360. If you take only 180, it will never be shown in Maps.
- Your photosphere will be subject to moderation before posting on Google Maps (it's usually very fast)
Uploading of photospheres on Google+ is the sine qua non to display these in Google Maps. Once you meet these conditions, you simply go to the following address, titled Maps View and sign in to start offering your photospheres on Google Maps. Mathieu Bruc
same and I have found on our Maps profiles View some interesting stats
regarding the number of views of our photospheres, without specific
action on our part! ( Mathieu Bruc Profile - Profile Quentin Richard ).
How to make your own virtual tour on Google Maps?
The photospheres are now having more secrets for you, we can go to the
Google innovation we're really interested in this article: the realization of your own virtual tours! Indeed, the novelty began in late 2013, it is now possible to connect multiple photospheres together to make a virtual visit to a territory. The principle is almost identical to that of " virtual tours for pro ", which allows you to see the inside of a shop, hotel, or why no one OT;). As an example in pictures worth a thousand words, I paid for the exercise to illustrate this article. I live in Paris, so I do not have beautiful natural to propose or hiking path secrets landscapes, but we will do with it! Paris is Paris, so I chose to do my test in the little park "Vert Galant" along the Seine. This park is relatively unknown because most people passing by actually visiting the stage of the Pont Neuf. Yet it is a pleasant place, with breathtaking views of the Seine (notice to romantic: bring your picnic fuck half at the end of the park in the summer, guaranteed!). To take a virtual tour of the park, so I chose to 4 photospheres. One at each corner of the park (it forms a triangle) and one in the middle.
If I had had over time, it would have been possible to do more of
course: but here the aim was primarily to prove that it was
"practicable." We begin by sending all its photospheres on https://www.google.com/maps/views and wait for their approval. I also invite you to check out crossing geographical position assigned to your images, and correct it if necessary. Generally, the satellite will be most useful to make corrections.
All images are loaded (the first 4), we can then begin the assembly. Once all your photospheres are online, you click "Assemble images to explore" then select your photos. Google then calls your whole photo a "constellation.
The images are selected: they used to create the virtual tour.
After submitting your hand images to use, Google displays the
coordinates of your photospheres on a map, and it is now up to you to
indicate the "path virtual tour" to follow! Google gives you default paths and indicates the potential paths, but you remain free to make the mesh of your choice. In my example, I chose to make it obligatory passage through the "middle" of the park to get from one opposite to another. It for consistency and to avoid losing the virtual visitor.
We created the path fairly intuitive interface with proposed Then you
can make some adjustments in order to tell Google Maps what guidance your photospheres. Do not neglect this aspect because it can make the difference between a successful visit and fun to use or not. Besides Google moderates again your actions before validation. Do things right from the start, is to ensure a quick validation! After validation, so you are in the presence of a virtual tour made by you and visible to all!
How can tourism use of this new feature?
The fact that Google lets individuals interact and complete Google Maps so is a strong signal. Google pushes even the defect to send regular e-mails to inform about the number of people who saw the photospheres, and encourage them to post more!
Example of e-mails received from Google after completion of the tour.
However, if you are a tourist structure, keep in mind these few things:
- This principle of virtual tour is great for outdoor and all the places that are not tied directly to a structure as such. This is perfect for a road touring, to discover a coastline, a hidden wilderness or urban location etc.
- If you want to do something similar for a place to visit, I suggest you go through a pro because it will necessarily connect your visit to a Google+ Page Local (formerly addresses). And even if your place of visit includes portions outside.
- My virtual visit was carried out with a Nexus 4 phone: the final image quality is not excellent. You can get much better from there yet by a pro that will be capable of "making" photospheres from a digital SLR.
- Google gives you the opportunity to borrow one of his "Trekkers", his backpack designed to make Street View of hiking ( etourisme.info talked about here ). Why not apply for a Trekker for your territory?
Beyond visibility in Google Maps, I think it is important to note that you create in this way content is exported. You can display your visit directly to the website of your tourist destination like this:
Rather nice to retain touristonautes on your site right? :-) This concludes my first article on etourisme.info!
I take this opportunity to warmly thank the editorial for this
opportunity, and I hope to give you desire to create your own virtual
tours!
